The International Day for the Elimination of Racism and Discrimination Virtual event by the AACA to commemorate the day police in Sharpeville, South Africa opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against apartheid in 1960 aims to acknowledge the legacy of these past wrongs and highlight how those in our region are using Arts/Culture to confront discrimination today. Recognizing the value of the artists to the success of the event, we have decided to collaborate with performers who will exhibit their respective art forms in a manner that both entertains and educates the audience. There will be musical/dance performances by different artists, which will expose the audience to new types of music. It also provides an avenue for artists in the African-Caribbean immigrant community to showcase their talents to a regional/national viewership.
The event will be hosted on Zoom with participants connecting from various communities in NWT and northern AB. Being a diverse organization, there will be interactions in English & French.
